Children's author Desiree Webber is the author of two non-fiction, middle-grade books entitled The Buffalo Train Ride and Bone Head: Story of the Longhorn. Both books were Oklahoma Book Award finalists and have received positive reviews by School Library Journal.
She regularly receives positive comments about her school programs and her library programs entitled "Buffalo Tales." Lots of audience participation and visuals keep children interested and learning.
Webber talks about this interesting animal, how the Plains Indian nations used the buffalo to survive and thrive and how conservationists saved the mammal from extinction. Fifteen buffalo traveled from the Bronx Zoo to Oklahoma Territory to live at the first federal bison refuge in 1907.
Desiree graduated from the University of California, San Diego, with a degree in Communications and the University of Oklahoma with a master’s in library and information studies. She makes her home in Oklahoma with her husband Steve and a frisbee-catching dog named Lily.
